Oregon's equine activity law
Oregon law addresses liability for equine activities in Oregon Revised Statutes (ORS) 30.687 through 30.697. In general terms, these statutes limit the civil liability of equine activity sponsors and equine professionals for injuries to participants that result from the inherent risks of equine activities.
The statutes define "inherent risks of equine activities" and also describe circumstances in which the limitation does not apply. Please read the statutes in full; the current text is published by the Oregon State Legislature at oregonlegislature.gov.
What this means for visitors and riders
- Horses are large, powerful animals with minds of their own. They can behave in unpredictable ways — including kicking, biting, bolting, bucking, shying, or stumbling — even when well trained and handled properly.
- Ground conditions, weather, other animals, equipment, and the actions of other people can contribute to accidents.
- Participation in riding, lessons, training, grooming, handling, or simply being near horses involves risk of serious injury.
Important limits of this notice
- This notice does not replace a signed liability release. Everyone participating in equine activities at RND Stables, LLC or with Rocking RMB Equine Services, LLC must complete the RND/RMB Liability Release Waiver before participating.
- This notice is not a promise or statement that RND Stables is exempt from all liability. The extent of any liability is determined by the statutes, any signed agreements, and the facts of each situation.
- Minors may participate only with a parent or legal guardian's signed waiver.
Before you visit or ride
- Complete the RND/RMB Liability Release Waiver online at rndstables.com/waiver.
- Follow all barn rules and staff instructions.
- Wear appropriate footwear and an approved riding helmet where required.
- Tell us about any health conditions or riding history relevant to your safety.
